Let’s keep it real: hotel coffee is… not the vibe. It’s there, it’s warm, it technically has caffeine. But if you’re someone who dreams in espresso shots and cold brew, you deserve better. Like, way better.
If I had it my way, I’d be hand-pulling cortados for each of you and giving out single-origin pour overs like conference swag. But since I’m not allowed to open a full-service café in the Wyndham Grand, I’ve got the next best thing, a list of solid coffee spots near the hotel where you can fuel up properly.
Here’s the coffee rundown:
💛 Jon’s Pick: Yinz Coffee
They call it Pittsburgh’s favorite coffee, and honestly? Same. It’s literally right outside the hotel, which means you can roll out, grab something that actually tastes like coffee, and be back before anyone notices you escaped the lobby. Highly recommend everything.
🏨 Hotel Lobby Starbucks
Convenient. Predictable. Gets the job done. If you’re in a rush or just really craving your usual venti oatmilk brown sugar whatever, you don’t even have to leave the building. No shame in that game.
🎸 Rock ’n’ Joe Coffee Bar (4 min walk)
Good latte, cool atmosphere, and a quick walk from the hotel. It’s a nice option if you want to sneak out before a session and come back with something that didn’t come out of a Cambro.
📦 Nicholas Coffee & Tea Co. (5 min walk)
This one’s for the real coffee people. They roast their own beans, and their drip is excellent. I tried both the drip and a latte and can confidently say: go drip. Bonus you can buy a bag of beans to bring home, which makes a pretty great “I was at a conference” souvenir.
🧊 La Prima Espresso (17 min walk, so plan accordingly)
Okay this one’s a little farther, but if you’re into nitro cold brew, it’s worth it. Smooth, strong, and so good you might forget you walked 17 minutes for it. Their espresso is on the lighter side and not my fav, but still solid.
☕ And yeah, there’s always Dunkin and Starbucks nearby
No judgment if that’s your jam. But if you’re feeling adventurous, there’s a lot of great local coffee to try while you’re here. Why not mix it up?
Whether you’re a flat white fan, a cold brew purist, or just someone who needs caffeine to human properly before 9am, Pittsburgh’s got options. Get out there, sip something good, and if you find a hidden gem, send it my way. I’ll probably be double-fisting coffee all week.
